Terms of Service
Effective June 2, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Hookline, an automated receptionist service for local businesses (the "Service") operated by Hookline ("we," "us," or "Hookline"). By creating a Hookline account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Throughout these Terms, "you" refers to the business owner or authorized representative who creates the Hookline account. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information and is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
1. Acceptance of Terms
You may use the Service only if you are at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract. If you create an account on behalf of a business or other entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms, and "you" refers to both you and that entity.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to account holders by email or through a prominent in-app notice before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of the Service
Hookline is an automated receptionist service. When a call placed to your business line is forwarded to your Hookline phone number, the Service:
- Sends an automated SMS to the caller within seconds of the missed call;
- Engages the caller in a text conversation to capture their name, the reason for the call, and any preferences;
- Optionally checks your connected calendar and offers available appointment times;
- Surfaces lead information to you through the Hookline dashboard.
The Service relies on third-party providers, including Twilio for telephony and SMS, Stripe for payment processing, Supabase for data storage, Vercel for hosting, and Google for optional calendar integration. The availability and performance of these providers can affect the availability of the Service. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
3. Plans and Pricing
Hookline offers a single paid plan. Every subscription begins with a 14-day free trial.
Growth — $297 / month
- Missed-call SMS auto-reply
- AI text conversation
- Google Calendar booking
- Dashboard access
- Multilingual support
- 24/7 coverage
- 14-day free trial
Prices are in U.S. dollars and are exclusive of any applicable taxes. We may modify pricing or the features included in the plan with at least 30 days' notice to existing subscribers; price changes take effect at the start of the billing period following the notice. Continued use of the Service after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price.
4. User Accounts and Responsibilities
To use Hookline, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information at signup and to keep that information up to date. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at hline@hooklineapp.org if you suspect any unauthorized access.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of Hookline complies with all applicable laws, including telecommunications regulations such as the U.S. Telephone Consumer Protection Act ("TCPA") and analogous laws in other jurisdictions, data protection laws, and any consent requirements for SMS communications with your callers. Hookline provides the technology; the legal relationship with your callers remains yours, and you act as the data controller for caller information collected through the Service.
5. Payment and Billing
Billing is handled by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us and our payment processor to charge the payment method you provide for all fees due under your plan.
Free trial
Each new subscription begins with a 14-day free trial. We collect your payment method when you sign up, but you are not charged during the trial. We may revoke the trial if we determine you are misusing the Service or are otherwise ineligible (for example, if you have previously held a Hookline trial).
Recurring billing
After the trial ends, your subscription automatically renews each month at the then-current price for your plan. You are charged on the same day each month until you cancel. If your payment method fails, we may retry the charge and suspend or terminate the Service if the failure is not resolved within a reasonable period.
Cancellation
You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you retain access through that date and are not charged for the next period.
Refunds
Once the free trial ends and a charge has been made, fees are non-refundable, including for unused portions of a billing period, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
Taxes
Fees are exclusive of sales, use, value-added, and similar taxes. You are responsible for any such taxes other than those based on Hookline's net income.

7. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law, regulation, or third-party right;

- Harass, defraud, or deceive callers;
- Impersonate any person or business other than your own;
- Use the Service in connection with emergency services. Hookline is not a substitute for 911 or any other emergency service and must not be relied upon to receive or relay emergency communications;

- Use the Service to build, train, or evaluate a competing product;
- Resell, sublicense, or otherwise commercially redistribute the Service, except as expressly permitted by a separate written agreement with us;
- Interfere with, disrupt, or impair the integrity, security, or performance of the Service;
- Use automated means to access the Service except as we expressly permit.
We may suspend or terminate your account for violations.
8. Intellectual Property
Our property
The Service, including all related software, text, graphics, logos, and trademarks, is owned by Hookline or our licensors and is protected by U.S. and international intellectual property laws. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your internal business purposes.
Your content
You retain all rights in the content you provide to Hookline — your business information, FAQ entries, configured messaging, and similar materials. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, process, transmit, and display that content solely as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service for you.
Feedback
If you send us suggestions, feedback, or ideas about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use them without any obligation to you.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT MESSAGES SENT OR RECEIVED THROUGH THE SERVICE WILL BE DELIVERED OR TIMELY.
Hookline's automated SMS replies are generated by software from the configuration and content you provide. You are responsible for reviewing that configuration and for monitoring conversations as appropriate to your business.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
- WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
- OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM AND (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
11. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Hookline and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in any way connected with (i) your use of the Service, (ii) your violation of these Terms, (iii) your violation of any law or the rights of a third party (including your callers), or (iv) any content you submit to the Service.
12. Termination
You may cancel your subscription at any time through the dashboard or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if we determine that termination is necessary to protect Hookline, our users, or third parties.
Upon termination, your right to access the Service ends. We will retain or delete your information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including the intellectual property provisions, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will survive.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The federal and state courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive or equitable relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
14. General
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Hookline concerning the Service and supersede any prior agreements on the same subject.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
No waiver
Our failure to enforce a right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision.
Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
Force majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including failures or outages of third-party providers, internet or telecommunications disruptions, natural disasters, labor disputes, or governmental action.
